A bad day and a good day all the same

Last week I decided to drop an online class. The problem wasn't the class, it was getting my veterans benefits to cover more than a full load. Anyway, I went to the bookstore to return the vastly overpriced, used book, and afterwards decided to go get new running shoes.
I drove out to the street I was supposed to be on to get to this specialized store I was looking for but found that I was going west when I was supposed to be going east So I made a left down another street with the intension of turning around. Unfortunately there was another car on this road, and the guy wasn't paying attention, drove over the middle line, and hit me.
Nothing ruins my day more than a fender bender. So instead of going after new shoes, I'm waiting for a police report. The other guy was determined to be the at fault driver, but that's not the point of this post.
After the accident I went to OK Runner. The guy that owns the place is incredible. You see, I've been having trouble with my Knees when I run. Being that I'm in the military, I have to run often. Anyway, they put me on machines to determine what was wrong with the shoes I was wearing, and determined that they make me run at an angle which causes my knees to be supported by my tibia instead of my fibula. It's kind of over my head, but the bottom line is that they sold me a pair of new shoes, gave me a military discount, and I ran two miles on them last Friday with out any pain whatsoever.
I had thought that I was just getting old (just turned 30) and so were my knees, but it turned out that I was using inferior technology on my feet. It was a good day after all.

That is actually really good to know. My shoes are about as ancient as they come (do I admit that I got them my freshman year of college, TEN years ago?? Ouch. Yea, I know, but I'm really good about exercising now!) and don't really support me the way I think they should. I guess when it finally comes time to admit that they won't work for me anymore, I'll have to go to a store like the one you talked about, to figure out just what I need. Only question: does it cost a whole lot more to have them figure out what kind you need?

The shoes that I got retailed at $80.00 before my military discount. The shoes aren't custom made, they are just designed for people that walk/run like I do. I could have chosen from six pairs that the salesman though would benefit my knees.
I do recomend a running specialist type store which I used to know of one at Valco mall in Cupertino, but that was years ago and I don't even know if it's there anymore.
10 years old? I'm lucky if my workout shoes last me eight months due to comfort. You should get them bronzed.

Sorry about the accident, but glad you found a solution for your knee pain. We miss seeing you guys every now and then now that we are both gone from Arizona.
