I don't very often just sit down and write about what is going on in our lives, but I decided I would tonight. Between my head and the weather, I've had quite a day. Let me explain:
My head is pounding. I am pregnant. Tylenol is weak. It takes the edge off, but never completely takes the pain away. I thought I must just have a headache from the nasty cold I've had, but yesterday I realized that I have a wisdom tooth growing in. (I know, some of you are thinking -- wait a minute, how old is she?) Last May I had a wisdom tooth pulled (it was a nightmarish ordeal) and was told that the other three were all impacted. They would need to be removed by surgery, but, since I found out I was pregnant a couple of weeks later, I was told there was no hurry. After all, they were impacted -- that's why they were still under the gums, where they would stay until they were removed. I wouldn't recommend Korean dentists, just for future reference... (that has as much to do with the tooth they pulled, as my current condition).
Anyway, I can't have anything done about this darned tooth until I am not pregnant. I hope it either grows in, or I can find something that I can take that actually helps. I have to call my OB tomorrow and see what he says.
Now, about the weather: we are currently experiencing our first tornado watch, since our arrival in OK. We are in the middle of a severe thunderstorm (we had hail a few minutes ago) with crazy winds (hence the tornado watch). We are supposed to have up to four inches of snow tomorrow. Today, we had 70 degree weather. Tomorrow our high is supposed to be just above freezing. As you might imagine, we are currently going through a very rapid drop in temperature. It's all just strange. Mostly, I'm getting used to it (the weather is very unpredictable here), but the tornado part is a bit scary. I know what we should do, but I'm really hoping we don't have to actually do it. We really don't have a very good house for tornadoes. We have one room with no windows. It's about 3 feet wide by maybe 5 feet long. Imagine six of us trying to take cover in there for an extended period. Not to mention, it's got a great big mirror in it, which doesn't bring me great comfort. Oh, well, we knew what we were getting into when we came here. Hopefully we survive it.
Other than that, life is quite nice right now. We are anxiously (ok, Jonathan is anxious) looking forward to Reading Night at school tomorrow. Jon was explaining to me why we can't miss it. "We get to go to the school and the after we go to the library and eat a cookie and do some activities!" Did anyone notice the lack of reading included in his description? He is very excited about the cookies, so we (meaning I, since Derek will be in class) are going to do our very best not to forget about it.

I don't admit that I'm scared of very many things. I however, am scared of tornadoes. I was taking a volunteer class called CERTS (Civilian Emergency Response Team) and the guy teaching it said that he didn't mind tornadoes at all but was scared of earthquakes. I'm an earthquake person. It all has to do with experience. I experienced the quake of '89 (the one that interrupted the World Series between the A's and Giants) and I didn't die and I know how to react to them.
Any way, I hate tornadoes even though I probably won't die.
Tornadoes would be very scary. You know, with the earthquake they just had in Wells it has given us a wake up call, again. We are working very hard on getting our food storage back up to date. You just never know with these things. We have had to use our water storage a few times over the last couple of years and have been so grateful.
Good luck watching your tornadoes! I hope you don't see one.
p.s. Is Jonathon in the stage of sounding everything out that he sees? It is kind of cute because Briaunna is learning so much but sometimes it can drive me crazy!
My only experience with tornadoes was that one in Duchesne last year. Very small, but it just gave me a chill. Nature is a powerful thing, isn't it?
Wow I would be scared too! Terrified, actually. I've grown up in a place where there are almost zero natural disasters...the only thing we have to be careful of are monsoons, and you might have a tree branch blown down if it's really bad (well OK, once our shed was picked up and thrown into our neighbors yard, but that was the worst it's been in 20 years). So natural disasters like tornadoes and earthquakes scare the bejeebers out of me. I hope you won't have to face one!
I also hope you get feeling better! The tooth situation sounds very painful. JJ has never had his wisdom teeth removed and they hurt him often. I can't imagine dealing with that kind of pain while pregnant!
I always thought tornados sounded so intriging and had this weird desire to experience one (as long as it missed my house). But then one summer when we were in the south there were tornados either where we had just left or tornados had hit where we were going. I saw the devastation it brings. Then when we were on our way to south Dakota there was a tornado behind us and we were nearly out of gas. We finally found a gas station and met a stormchaser there and I thought, "you're crazy for heading into it when we are trying to get away!" I've since decided there is no desire to live through a tornado anymore. I hope you are all safe.
Yikes. Tornadoes freak me out too. I hope you're ok. (Derek, Brent has memories of the Loma Prieta earthquake too. Are you sure you guys aren't secretly twins from another mother?)
Jenn! I was just about to head over to your blog and tell you there was a cool pic on Lauren's blog, but you already commented! You are very efficient!
I liked Derek's comment about not being scared of much. Haha. I think tornados have got to be one of the worst. Those crazy dudes that go chasing em need mental evals if you ask me. I enjoyed reading that post, and hope you start feeling better Jenn. Headaches are the worst, and me and Alec get them all the time. I had a companion from Stillwater, like that means anything, hehe.
Jen this is Beth Spencer from Duchesne (well Beth Jeppson now)
It's fun to find people throgh the blog web!!
Your family is adorable - how fun to read about you and your family. It looks like you have had a WHIRLWIND of moving and such in the past seven years.
Headaches!!! UGH - I've been getting them a lot too with this pregnancy. They are miserable and I hate taking "stuff" but I have to. - Congratulations!!!! I'm hoping for a girl too - hopefully find out next week :)
