By 8:00 the IV experience was over and we were on to the Pitocin. We did a couple activites to lighten the bordem, the nurses checked her, and she was about a 2 or 3. Jenn decided to take a nap, which lasted all of ten minutes before alarms of all the machines woke her. We were having conversations about random thoughts when she started having really hard contractions. She called the nurse to get checked again, this time thinking about finally breaking down and having an epidural (she's never had one). At that point it was too late though, she had dilated to an 8. No wonder she wanted pain killer, she dilated around 5 cm in an hour. At 12:15 the nurses check her again and she hadn't progressed. At 12:30 she was a 9 and the nurses decided to call the doctor and not leave until the baby was out. Around 12:45 the barrage of equipment showed up, baby heaters, the doctors catching mitt and tools, as well as a lot of staff. By 1:00 the doctor showed up. I've never seen such an articulate doctor. He was telling the nurses to move the stirrups down an inch, move Jenn's legs over there, adjust the bed, all this while my wife is in obvious discomfort, he's worried about where her leg is. I don't think Jenn considered that she had a leg at the time, I could be wrong.
Anyway, when her body positioning was all set to the doctors liking, it took about five to seven good hard pushes, and Naomi Nadine came into the world. It was actually funny, Jenn couldn't see the baby and shortly after the baby was out she mouthed to me, "Is it a girl?", in which I replied in the affirmative. This was also a source of concern for both of us, we had the name Naomi picked out a long time ago when we were expecting Michael, who if he hadn't been borne in the car would have been a delivery room announcement as to his gender. Instead I just announced it while I was standing outside the car. Anyway, we have run out of boys names, so if she wasn't a she we would be in trouble and quite a bit more stressed.
Anyway, she weighed in at 8 LBS 9oz and 20.5 in. That is equal in weight to DJ, but she has him in height by an inch.
Both mother and baby are doing well and are expected to be discharged in the afternoon on Tuesday.

congats! I am glad all went well.
Congratulations you guys! She is beautiful. I'm glad all went well and I'm a touch envious that it's over with for you! (And that you have confirmed for sure that she really is a she!) I hope you have a speedy recovery Jenn and that all continues to go well.
Awwww! What a precious and perfectly beautiful little lady. Congratulations, you guys!
Love, Alison
P.S. I love her name! I'm glad you got to use it!
Wonderful news Jenn and Derek! My goodness, that was a fast 5 cm! It looks like Naomi is well loved by her siblings, as well as her parents, of course.
Congratulations! Wow, pitocin and no epidural? I delivered Forrest naturally and he was 9 lbs. but with Nadia I got induced and I went 7 hours or so without an epidural and the contractions were so hard I was nearly to pass out, therefore getting an epidural. I'm impressed Jenn! And I'm so glad it's a girl, especially for dear Janina.

She is so sweet. I am glad to hear she was born in a hospital rather than a parking lot. I hope they are both doing well, (and you too Derek).
