I forgot...

I had one other news story that I wanted to share. Since it's a good one, I decided I better put it on while I'm thinking of it.

Last Sunday we had a lot of wind (remember our tornado watch). Monday there was a Nascar flag in our front yard. Now, we really did have a lot of wind, but I don't know if we had that much wind, so I'm somewhat suspicious that we also had at least one neighborhood prankster. Anyway, we've seen the flags out on Sundays since we've been here, but since we know nothing about Nascar, we didn't remember where we had seen that particular flag, so it laid on our front sidewalk (where it had been thoughtfully placed by one of our neighbors) until yesterday.

On our way home from church we saw all of the flags out again and a brilliant solution came to me -- we stop at every house with flags and ask if they know of anyone who may have lost a flag. Well, by the time my thought had processed, we were past the first house, so we stopped at the second and met John. Wouldn't you know -- it was his flag. So we drove home (about four houses down), got the flag, and returned it. Now, I must say, we felt very happy about the whole situation -- good deed done, warm fuzzy feeling, good example for our children, and couldn't have been easier.

Well, you just can't do a good deed in Oklahoma. Later that afternoon we found an envelope with a note and a gift card to a local fast food/ice cream place in our mailbox. This is why we love it here. The people are absolutely fabulous! (excepting my OB) Of course, we wonder what our children are learning -- do what you should, with no expectation for reward and get reward??

WOW! That is so cool that he sent a thank you card - was the flag made of gold? Those must be some super nice people.

Funny to hear Derek's two likes about AZ. I have to admit, as much as I dislike Phoenix, not changing times is wonderful. I hate that I still have to keep track of when it changes though, now that my parents moved back to Utah.

That is pretty cool that people are so nice. Hopefully your kids are learning to reward people even if they don't expect it.

Nice. And I'm with Meg. Hopefully your kids will just want to do good, and if they get rewarded for doing so, well then great!

That IS a cool story.

So what's up with your OB? I cannot imagine leaving one of those things crying. I'd NEVER go back! Dr. Nolte is great. I wish he could fly out there for you.

That was fun to read. Talk about generous folk, eh? Seems like that type of thing is unheard of anymore...and all over a Nascar flag! I don't care for Nascar, but formula one racing (open top, enormous rear wheels)is cool and exciting..but I know not to mess with Nascar fans, you'll have a whooping coming your way. Maybe it was a good thing you returned the flag..maybe the generous gesture would have been reversed to a toilet papering or worse! hehe
