After my last whiny post, I thought I should quickly (at least for me) add a more positive one. This week has been a lot of fun (even though it's also been a bit busy). Monday was reading night at the school. My kids thought it was great! They love to hear stories and getting to eat cookies afterward was definitely an added bonus. I was glad that we went, though I did wonder beforehand if it would be worth it. I didn't lose any children and I had a great time visiting with my friends.
Tuesday we went skating. This was the third time we've gone since we've been here (it's a popular fund raiser for the schools around it) and the third time that I've forgotten to take pictures. I'll have to see if the principal will share some of his with me. He took a picture of all of us before we left, but I might get lucky and find some of my kids skating. They love it! Jonathan even plays all the games now -- he likes the hokey-pokey a lot. Nina attempts to skate around the entire rink without ever taking her hands off the wall. It's not especially effective, as skating technique goes, but she is a bit chicken (kind of like me--I don't even put on skates). Michael has been skating for years now, so he usually just gets out and goes with the big kids. Yesterday, he decided that he didn't want to skate, though, so we let DJ have his skates and helmet (yes, all of our children insist on wearing their helmets, just to be safe -- Jon also wears wrist guards -- you never know what might befall you...). DJ got training skates for Christmas, which he wears a lot (like a couple of hours a day), but he always gets on his knees and crawls across any hard floors in our house, so we didn't think he'd skate at a rink. Oh, how very wrong we were. Not only did he skate, but he did it without holding onto the wall, or anyone's hands and he went a full circle all by himself. I kept waiting for him to fall down, but he never did. It was the cutest thing ever. He was one of the smallest skaters there (there was a two-year-old girl out there looking pretty good). It's really too bad that I'm the only non-skater in my family, but it's way too late in life to take up potentially bone-breaking activities. (And, yes, I really am a chicken...)
The weather has been beautiful the last couple of days. Our tornado watch/snow advisory turned into 70 degree weather (I won't even try to tell you that I was broken hearted). Yesterday our children decided it was a perfect day for jumping on the trampoline. And, I must say, it really was nice, but the costumes they decided to wear left me a bit disturbed. Our trampoline is (not so surprisingly) located in our backyard. The children decided to wear their bathrobes. I looked out to see all of these flying bathrobes, several pairs of underwear and a diaper (with no flying bathrobe even attempting to cover it). It was rather amusing, but I must say, in Oklahoma people just do not let their kids run around in their underwear, so I made them put clothes on. They seemed rather despondent, so I'm afraid that I ruined their fun, but isn't that what moms are for...

I am laughing out loud (quietly, since it is after 1 in the morning, but out loud nonetheless) at the mental picture of your kids jumping in their bathrobes! How funny!!!
So sorry there was no tornado. I know how terribly disappointing that must be for you.
Where are the pictures. That had to be a cute site.
And, I am glad I was of assistance to you in finding Valerie and Meg?
I never remember to take pictures when the cute things are happening. I regretted it almost immediately, but they had already followed my orders and put on their clothes.
I'm glad that you know where people are, too. I love how small the world feels when you can keep track of friends, even though you haven't seen each other in years.
Unite, Chickens across the world! I too am Chicken!
That is SO funny! Ha ha!
I love ice-scating! I haven't been in years, however, so who knows if I could stay up or not. But what great fun for your kids!
The last time I went ice skating (last winter), I was doing very well slowly circling the wall (much like I imagine Janina doing). I didn't fall down until Ray pulled me out into the middle and tried to make me go faster than I knew my abilities would allow. As long as I could go my very nice, very slow, very close to the wall speed, I was fine. But I would certainly not feel bad if I never went ice skating again.
Jenn, if you look at my blog, I responded to your post. I added myself in the links on the Poulson Pigeon just out of curiosity to see how long it would take people to notice. Kelly Ann was pretty quick.
Mary,
Skating is like riding a bicycle, once you learn, you've learned. You just get really sore.
